The WellSpan Spotlight

WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital Stands Ready to Serve Our Community

Today, Service Employees International Union presented WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital a 10-day notice for a 5-day strike, starting on Tuesday, July 22.

Strikes are not good for anyone. WellSpan is deeply disappointed in SEIU leadership’s refusal to recommend the hospital’s strong offer and instead encourage union members to vote to strike at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital. No other WellSpan entities are affected.

“WellSpan is fully prepared to ensure continuous care for our community if there is a strike," said Niki Hinckle, senior vice president, WellSpan Health's West Region. "Our comprehensive plan allows us to remain fully committed to serving our patients without interruption.”

WellSpan wants to reach an agreement with SEIU and avoid the strike. If the union is willing, WellSpan will stay at the table to achieve a contract that makes sense for everyone - the hospital, team members, patients, and the community. WellSpan stands by its statement that the offer that was on the table was a strong one. It guaranteed increased pay over the next three years and other enhancements to team members’ total compensation package, despite challenges related to government cuts to healthcare funding.
